چکیده

“Experimental applied mathematics” comprises the usage of modern computer technology as an active agent of research, for the purposes of gaining insight and intuition, discovering new patterns and relationships, testing and conjectures, and confirming analytically derived results, much in the same spirit that laboratory experimentation is employed in the physical sciences. It is closely related to what is known as “experimental mathematics” in pure mathematics, as has been described elsewhere, including the Princeton Companion [11]. In one sense, most applied mathematicians have for decades aggressively integrated computer technology into their research. What is meant here is computationally-assisted applied mathematical research that features one or more of the following characteristics:

Forecasting Palladium Price Using GM(1,1)

Palladium is an element of PGM group that has significant physical properties. This leads to more attention to this metal. Due to vast applications of palladium in industry and its usage in jewelry, its price plays an important role in economic. Therefore, forecasting its price is crucial subject in economic and engineering design. This paper proposes the model GM(1,1) to predict the Palladium ...

Experimental Mathematics and Computational Statistics

The field of statistics has long been noted for techniques to detect patterns and regularities in numerical data. In this article we explore connections between statistics and the emerging field of “experimental mathematics.” These includes both applications of experimental mathematics in statistics, as well as statistical methods applied to computational mathematics.

Opportunities and Challenges in 21st Century Mathematical Computation: ICERM Workshop Report

Here we should distinguish “experimental mathematics” from “computational mathematics” and “numerical mathematics.” While there is no clear delineation, the latter two terms generally encompass computational methods for concrete applied mathematics and engineering applications, whereas “experimental mathematics” usually applies more specifically to computations that advance the state of the art...

A Heuristic Method on Extended Two-Stage Network Structures

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as a non–parametric method is used to measure relative performance of organizational units. The aim of this paper is to develop a new model to evaluate the efficiency of a general two-stage network structures proposed by Li et al.  (2012) for measuring the performance of Decision Making Units (DMUs). In addition, this paper expands the work of Li et al. (2012) an...

Scale Efficiency in DEA and DEA-R with Weight Restriction

In data envelopment analyze (DEA) the scale efficiency in the input-oriented CCR model is less than or equal to the scale efficiency in DEA based on the fractional analysis (DEA-R). Also, the scale efficiency in case of multiple inputs and one output and vice versa the scale efficiencies are equal in DEA and DEA-R. In this paper, first, DEA-R model with weight restrictions when there is relativ...
